Fun With Coding: Preparing Kids for the Digital Future

Fun with Coding is an engaging initiative by NZTEA that introduces students to the fundamentals of programming through interactive, hands-on learning. One of the key tools used in the program is Scratch, a visual programming language developed by MIT, ideal for beginners to learn the basics of coding in a fun and creative way.

Students are guided through a specially curated Scratch coding book, which helps them progressively understand core programming concepts while building simple, enjoyable projects.

Through this initiative, participants gain:

  • A solid foundation in coding using Scratch
  • Step-by-step learning through a structured Scratch workbook
  • Improved computational thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Opportunities to design animations, games, and interactive stories
  • Creative confidence in expressing ideas through code
  • A collaborative and supportive environment to explore technology
  • A strong starting point for future learning in advanced programming languages
