ChithambaraMaths Challenge

Since 2023, NZTEA has proudly partnered with the Chithambara Maths Challenge UK to host the Chithambara Maths Challenge in New Zealand. This prestigious competition is held annually across four major cities: Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Hamilton.

Designed for students from Year 2 to Year 11, the challenge aims to cultivate a strong foundation in mathematics, problem-solving, and critical thinking, while also encouraging forward-thinking skills.

Over the past three years, the challenge has successfully supported students in:

  • Enhancing their ability to read, understand, and interpret problem statements
  • Extracting relevant information and applying it effectively in planning solutions
  • Strengthening mathematical problem-solving skills
  • Developing logical and analytical thinking
  • Encouraging exploration of alternative problem-solving methods
  • Improving the clarity and effectiveness of solution presentation
  • Boosting confidence and communication skills
